What is Soroptimist International (S.I.)
It is a worldwide organisation for women in management and the professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.
Each S.I. club is based on a geographical area, such as a town or city.
What do we do?
We call our voluntary work ‘Programme Action’ http://soroptimist-gbi.org/cardiff-and-district/programme-action/and it is the reason for being a Soroptimist. It reflects the vision and values of S.I., which are to be a global voice for women through awareness, advocacy and action. We strive for the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards, human rights for all, and equality, development and peace.
We are committed to service to local, national and international communities, active participation in decision-making at all levels of society, international goodwill and understanding.
We have ‘Friendship’ links with clubs SI Kenilworth, SI Frederiksberg Denmark and SI Ipsae Mauritius.
We have our own residential Club in London (in Bayswater Road) where Soroptimists and their friends and family can stay in comfort at reasonable rates. Number 63, Bayswater Road, London
History, background and membership
S.I. Cardiff and District was formed in 1950 and this year, we celebrate our Diamond Anniversary. We are a vibrant, friendly Club of 44 members. We usually meet twice a month in Cardiff. Our membership fee is £89.50 pa, this includes a levy to Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland.

Our Joint Presidents this calendar year are Pat Binding (April - August - pictured in the centre) and Giselle Davies (September - December - pictured on the left) and last year’s president Cherry Wright.
